Every year when the holidays roll around there is one toy that captures the imagination of the world and becomes the “must-have” toy of the season. Zhu Zhu Hamsters were the must-have toy for Christmas in 2009, and they look to be in very high demand again for 2010.

What are Zhu Zhu Hamsters?

Even though they took the world by storm last year, many people still aren’t familiar with these cute, little electronic pets. Sure, everyone knows what a hamster is, but what the heck is a Zhu Zhu Hamster. Well, if you can imagine all of the great things about having a pet, like interaction, cuddliness and fun, without the clean up or care and feeding, you’re on your way to understanding the Zhu Zhu Hamsters.

Zhu Zhu Hamsters are cute and cuddly, but they are also smart too. Every hamster is programmed to respond to and interact with kids. They each have upward of 40 different electronic squeaks, sounds and replies. The Zhu Zhu Pets aren’t simply stuffed animals that just sit there; these toys get around – scuttling and crawling from here to there and making cute little noises as they go. They’re fun to watch and kids absolutely love them.

There is a huge selection of accessories that these cute little critters can interact with. The hamsters are a lot of fun on their own, but adding some of the accessories designed just for them really shows just how cool these little hamsters are, and how much they are capable of. More Available for 2010

In 2009 it was almost impossible to find a Zhu Zhu Hamster in the retail stores. In most stores they sold for between $8 and $12 retail, but the stores couldn’t keep them in stock. The word got out that these toys were hot, and parents went to great lengths to get them. The makers of these cute little guys had to open up additional production shops in China just to keep up with the demand.

No only was there a limited supply, the line of Zhu Zhu pets , itself, was also very limited. There were only four different hamsters to choose from. In 2010 the wold of Zhu Zhu pets has quite a few new additions. There are now dozens of different hamsters to choose from. From wild punk rock hamsters to adorable little baby Zhu Zhus, the line has expanded and looks to be a huge success for the second year in a row.

When it comes to hot toys, there will always be something new to hit the market. However, there hasn’t been a line of toys that have captured the imagination of kids and adults alike the way that the Zhu Zhu Pet hamsters have.  As new toys are added to the line, it’s a sure bet that these hamsters are going to be popular for some time to come.
